Trailer/Sailer Yacht Trailer

Trailer/Sailer Yacht Trailer

The trailer sailer design suits yachts up to about 1400kg and is a 2 wheel breakback design with self aligning rear rollers which pick up the bow of the boat, keeping the boat centred on the trailer, and whilst it is being winched on supports the whole weight of the boat.

When nearly in position the boat will come to rest on a series of keel rollers which support it under the centreboard/ballast. There is also a keel roller further forward. By spreading the boat weight across several rollers the boat can start to roll off easier when launching. Side rollers to steady the boat are also fitted, along with a 2-speed winch and snubber.

The breakback is activated by means of a pin positioned just behind the drawbar where the A-frame part of the chassis begins. Once this pin is removed the boat is sitting on a chassis which will pivot around the wheels, and is almost perfectly balanced. Just a slight push sends the yacht back past the wheels at which point the frame tips to allow the boat to slide off. A restraining chain can be used to control the angle of tilt.

Trailer/Sailer Yacht Trailer

This design is popular with people who choose to sail in different waters, the Solent, Falmouth, Lake District, Brittany Coast. With a trailer sailer your yacht is not tied to a mooring buoy!

Optional Extras

The Immersion Kit is useful if you plan to immerse the trailer to launch and recover the boat.

The kit consists of a flushing system which allows all the brake drums to be flushed out from a single ½" hose connection.

To be effective this flushing must be done immediately after immersion before the salt dries on the brake parts.

We recommend that the trailer is rocked back and forth a couple of feet while the flushing is taking place to ensure the fresh water is distributed around the brake mechanism.

Also included is a system of brake transmission cables which eliminate the usual bowden cables which can cause problems if they become sticky or seize up.
