Trailer/Trolley Yacht Trailer

Trailer/Trolley Yacht Trailer

The advantages of a trailer/trolley system are that the trailer is never immersed in the sea, thus eliminating problems with couplings, brakes, cables and bearings (although those bearings known as "sealed for life" require much less maintenance than the older style tapered bearings). Often the loading height will be less reducing the depth of water needed for launching and recovery. A third advantage comes when a club has a number of identical or similar (weight) boats which can each have their own cradle whilst sharing a road trailer.

The disadvantages are that the all up weight of boat, trailer and trolley will be greater than a basic trailer and may put it outside the capability of your towing vehicle. Most boats use a 4 wheel non-steerable trolley, with suitable keel and side supports, although 3 wheeled steerable trolleys are an option. The trolley incorporates two guide posts to aid floating the boat over it.

The trailer can be either two or four wheeled, with tracks for the trolley wheels, loading ramps and 2-speed winch. Both units are fully galvanized, including the axles. The trolley is locked to the trailer using an adjustable locking bracket, the position of which can be set fore and aft to give a suitable noseweight.
